SOUSSE D POWER PLANT
The shielding work on the excavations of the underground structures of the new SOUSSE – D – power plant was carried out according to the following specifications:
For the pumping station, the shielding was carried out by 60 cm thick diaphragm walls and a depth of 16 meters, buttressed with metal sheath buttresses. For the neutralization pit and the oil pit (SOCOBAT), a similar shielding was carried out with 60 cm thick diaphragm walls and a depth of 16 meters.
The entrance to the condenser pit was shielded by a lost sheet pile enclosure, near the existing piles. The sheet piles used are of the ARBED PU28 type, with a length of 12 meters. For the seawater intake, the shielding was carried out with a sheet pile enclosure in the sea, accompanied by work to protect the structure by backfilling and rockfilling the banks. The sheet piles were driven into the water using a barge for driving and rockfill work.
